Open Badges设计用于发行认可和可核实用户技能和成就的数字徽章，获得此类成就的用户能在其在线简历中展示相关徽章。Open Badges包含了发行者链接，如何得到成就，以及用户所获得成就的项目名称等重要数据。Mozilla称有近百家组织使用了Open Badges框架，发行了6万枚以上的数字徽章。
它采用了JavaScript开发并在MPL协议下授权使用。
