Linux发行版上缺少类似 Paint.NET 这样强大但易于使用的图像处理和照片编辑软件，Novell公司的雇员Jonathan Pobst利用Cairo创建了一个Paint.NET的Gtk+克隆：Pinta，项目始发于 2010 年，最初它是 Paint.NET 3.0 的 GTK 跨平台移植版本，作者想让更多用户能够使用这款简洁高效的绘图工具。其界面类似Paint.NET，由于它是基于GTK+，因此可以运行在Linux、Windows和Mac OS X上。采用 MIT 协议授权，完全免费开源，无需注册账号，任何人都可以自由使用、修改和甚至重新分发这款软件，无论是个人用途还是商业用途都完全免费。简单的图像处理 Pinta 完全够用，而且体验比系统自带工具好得多；但如果你是专业设计师，需要处理复杂图像、高阶功能，那还是建议使用 Affinity Photo、Krita 这类更专业的软件。
